Selecting a room

  • Students will receive their lottery time and access code via their UCSD email account on May 14, 2009.
  • Lottery times are randomly assigned by College. Students may have the same lottery time, but are in different Colleges and are selecting from spaces only allocated to that College.
  • You may log in to the Room Selection program at your designated lottery time and anytime after that up until midnight on room selection day to select a space.
  • Once you’ve selected or been assigned to a space, you can login up until midnight on room selection day to check out your assignment or view your roommates.
  • You may select up to 3 eligible roommates (in some cases 4 roommates, please check with your College Residence Life Office for this option).
  • All selected roommates must be of the same gender and college of registration.
  • Prior to selecting a space, you may view the current space availability list for your College by clicking on the “Current Spaces Available” link on the Room Selection homepage http://www.ucsd.edu/go/housing/roomselection.
  • All space selections are final! Once you select a space and confirm it, you are assigned to that room or apartment. There are no room changes during Room Selection. (You may check with your College Residence Life office to see if they offer a Room Change Day).
  • You will be sent a confirmation to your UCSD email account. This confirms your room assignment for the 2009-10 academic year. If you do not receive an email, immediately contact your College Residence Life Office.

How are room selection lottery times assigned?

  • All applications from eligible students who have signed their housing contract and made their $650 prepayment by the stated deadlines are entered into the room selection process.
  • All individuals will be randomly assigned a room selection lottery time within their College of Registration.
  • Students will be sent an email on Thursday, May 14th with their assigned room selection lottery time and day along with their access code.
  • Students that receive a lottery time earlier in the day will typically have a better selection of spaces to choose from.

Unable to login at your lottery time?

If you can’t login at your designated lottery time, you may login any time after that. You can select a space up until midnight on your Room Selection Day. Please be aware that by logging in after your designated lottery time, you may have a smaller selection of spaces to choose from.

Room selection choices

A finite number of spaces are set aside for selection by eligible continuing students. Students will be able to choose from spaces allocated to their College. Due to space limitations, the type or location of housing you prefer may not be available during your Room Selection time. All eligible students that complete the Room Selection Application process and electronically sign their Housing Contract and make their $650 prepayment are guaranteed a space on-campus.

You may view some of the available floor plans at your College of Registration in May. Please note that changes may occur and certain housing options may not be available. Check with your College Residence Life Office for further information.

We highly encourage you to view the current space availability list prior to logging in to select your space. This list will be available starting May 15, 2009. Click on the “Current Spaces Available” link on the Room Selection homepage http://www.ucsd.edu/go/housing/roomselection.

LGBT Interest Housing

While it is the goal that every area on the UC San Diego campus is a safe and supportive home for all members of our community, UCSD recognizes the unique needs and challenges facing the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) community. In order to better support this community, each College/Residential area is making available Housing options to create opportunities for support, identity exploration, and community building for the LGBT community and those interested in this community. Priority will go to students currently eligible for on-campus housing during the Room Selection process. Students with a current on-campus housing guarantee may indicate a preference to live in this community during the Room Selection application process. All other eligible students may contact the Residence Life Liaison at reslifeliaison@ucsd.edu. For specific information about this program, please see your Residence Life website or contact your Resident Dean.

Disability accommodations

Guaranteed students with a disability requiring special Housing accommodations should apply for Housing online AND contact the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) as early as possible. Students must register with OSD and receive an Authorization for Accommodation (AFA) from their office. AFAs should be turned in to the Residence Life Liaison as soon as possible. Students must meet all Housing deadlines. AFAs for guaranteed continuing students are due to the Residence Life Liaison by noon on April 24, 2009. For all other inquiries and dates, please contact the Residence Life Liaison by email or phone to discuss your situation.

Transgender students

As are all of our residents, transgender students are valued members of the on-campus living community at UC San Diego. In order to support the needs of incoming and continuing transgender students, we strongly encourage students to contact the Residence Life Liaison by email or phone to discuss individual and specific needs. More information on transgender living and the transgender community at UC San Diego is available at the LGBT website.

Special circumstances

If you have unique conditions that may warrant special attention, contact the Residence Life Liaison by email or phone to discuss your situation and options.

Food Allergy Accommodations

If you will be living on campus and have food allergies requiring special Dining accommodations, please contact Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) as early as possible, http://osd.ucsd.edu/. Students must register with OSD and turn in an Authorization for Accommodation (AFA) to the Residence Life Liaison. The AFA should include a request for a referral to the Registered Dietician. The AFA should be turned into the Residence Life Liaison well in advance of your first meal on campus.

Construction and renovation

Construction and/or remodeling or repair of academic and residential buildings on the UCSD campus in the vicinity of the residence halls and apartments is scheduled for the 2009-2010 academic year. Construction is expected to occur during normal daytime working hours, and will result in disturbances and disruptions, including, but not limited to, increased noise and dust in the area surrounding the residence halls and apartments. By signing this Housing Contract, Resident agrees that he/she has been advised of said scheduled construction, and acknowledges that there will be disturbances and disruptions resulting from construction and has agreed to such.
