CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS 2009
A new Administration Building is currently underway at Revelle College near Plaza Cafe. The work will result in a small loss of recreational grass area, as well as site grading, heavy equipment, underground utilities, material deliveries, foundation preparation, and concrete form work.
The Health Sciences Grad School Housing broke ground in March 2009. We're excited to build this first on-campus housing for medical and graduate students.
Construction of the Muir College Apartments is beginning soon. The approximately 91,000 square foot project consists of two 9-story buildings, located on what is now the open lawn area south of Stewart Commons 225 and just west of Humanities and Social Sciences 250.
Immediate Street, pedestrian walkway, and Recreation Facility Impacts for demolition and construction work: from September 8, 2009 through July
2011, vehicular traffic on adjacent streets around the site, and parking lot P201 will be impacted at times to accommodate construction activities and utility installations. There will be occasions when Scholars Lane will be restricted to one lane of traffic, and ingress and egress for parking lot P201 controlled. During these times flagmen will be directing traffic.
South of Scholars Lane, the existing sand exercise area, sand volleyball courts, and two tennis courts will be used for construction staging and
will not be available for use until July 2011. Pedestrian circulation towards campus through Stewart Commons from Tenaya 215, Tioga 210, and Tuolomne 230 Apartments will be re-directed away from Stewart Commons northward towards Muir Lane until July 2010.
Renovation of the Stewart Dining Commons Facility will also begin on September 8, 2009. The approximately 16,500 sq. ft. project consists of complete interior renovation to existing 2nd floor dining hall and kitchen (Sierra Summit), and fire sprinkler improvements to 1st and 2nd floors. Stewart Commons, Building 225 is located in Muir College South of Muir Lane and West of McGill Hall.
Immediate Street and pedestrian walkway impacts for demolition and construction work: from September 8, 2009 through July 2010, vehicular traffic on adjacent streets around the site, and the southerly portion of parking lots P207 and P208 will be impacted at times to accommodate construction activities. There will be occasions when Muir Lane will be restricted to one lane of traffic. During these times flagmen will be directing traffic.
Pedestrian circulation towards campus through Stewart Commons from Tenaya 215, Tioga 210, and Tuolomne 230 Apartments will be re-directed away from Stewart Commons northward towards Muir Lane until July 2010.
Detour signs for vehicles and pedestrian traffic will also be posted.

HOUSING
Toby’s Spot, a re-use effort between Dining and Housing, continues to expand. Take your meals to-go on permanent dishware, and when you’re done, leave them at Toby’s Spot, located in each Apartment or ResHall ground floor elevator area. Dining staff will pick up the dirty dishes regularly. Nothing to throw away, and just as easy as using plastic!
CUSTODIAL
Custodial operations has invested in new equipment for cleaning floors (hard surfaces and carpet). This new equipment improves air quality by sucking moisture away from carpets, reducing the risk of mold and other airborne allergens increases safety due to its 100% water pickup, which minimizes the risk for slip and fall accidents is sustainable- it doesn’t wear down carpet and flooring as quickly as a vaccum, preserving the life of materials reduces environmental impact with its detergent dispensing system, which maximizes the use of chemicals and water and reduces waste-stream contribution.
